MY TOP 10

Okay, I guess this will be my new one. Many people have asked me about movies and often when they do I go into an intensely long conversation regarding various films. Then someone once asked me what my favorite film was, and it got me thinking. What film indeed is my favorite and best film that I have seen to date? So for all those who ask me that question, here is my TOP 10 best and favorite films that I have seen... mainly because I have nothing else to write and need to calm myself down...

                                                                                   #10
                                                              2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY
We start our countdown off with a classic and one of my favorites of that time. Based on Arthur C. Clarke's classic novel and with the brilliant mind of Stanley Kubrick we waltz through space (and even time) with Frank and David and of course everybody's favorite Hal-9000. This is quite simply not only one of the best films I have ever seen but also one of the best films ever made. It captures many authentic realistic outer space environments. One unique taste of this film is that it is thus far the only film to create the real-life no-sound-in-space effect. This made my list not only for its' authenticity but also for its' nightmarish sound effects. From the beeping of computer consoles to the white noise sounds of the running ship's engine to the steady hissing of the astronauts oxygen tanks; 2001: A Space Odyssey earned its' place as being not only one of the best films I have ever seen but also one of the scariest.

                                                                                  #9
                                                          THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT
Yeah, yeah, I know what you may be thinking: "How can you like a movie about three idiots who get lost in the woods?" Well the answer is as simple as breathing itself: the eeriness of course. Not only does the eeriness of the film get to me but also the night-terror-looking climax of the film as well. For the first several times that I have watched this film in its' entirety, The Blair Witch Project has scared me more times than any other film. Yes, I know the acting is poor and the concept of the movie isn't a Pulitzer Prize Winner, but for me this late '90's film deserves to be ranked in my Top 10... It also adds to the scariness when you fall asleep watching this film and your name just happens to be Josh. I recommend not doing that...

                                                                                  #8
AND NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT
If you want classic slapstick, silly, zany and altogether crude humour, you can never go wrong with one of the greatest comedy groups of all-time: Monty Python. Ranging from blowing people up and a gay army drill theme song to self-defense against bananas and the Statue of David slapping away a hand attempting to tear off his fig leaf, this film has it all. A wholesome knee-slapping comedy film with no need to ever worry about twists as the whole film is plain twisted. This classic film based on many sketches by Monty Python just barely got by on the list but was able to squeeze by the very similar yet sometimes dull film American Raspberry.

                                                                                  #7
                                                                 ENTER THE DRAGON
WOOHAH! HYAH! The classic martial arts film and Bruce Lee's final film kicked butt to its' way to my Top 10. As much as I enjoy Bruce Lee and his films as well as similar martial arts movies, nothing can compare to the authenticity that is Enter the Dragon. Seeing martial arts movies starring Jackie Chan make me sick. When he "fights" Jackie Chan looks like a monkey high on PCP and going berserk on anything that moves. As Mr. Lee, Bruce not only makes each scene look real, he also choreographed each of the fighting scenes himself to make the film that much more authentic earning this film a place in my Top 10 but also making it the best martial arts film of all-time.

                                                                                  #6
TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN PART 1
"You are cordially invited..." was how the teaser trailer began. Now I have to admit that when it first came out I did not really care for Twilight. I personally thought it was overrated and was thrown way too much out of proportion. Time went by and I met and fell in love with an amazing woman whom I promised to go see Breaking Dawn Part 1 on its' opening night, and I made this promise months prior to its' release. More time went by. Then finally on November 18, 2011 at midnight, Breaking Dawn Part 1 makes its' release on the east coast. Just about two hours later when the film was finished I could not help but keep saying the same thing over and over again: YOU HAVE GOT TO SEE THIS FILM! Not only is this one of the best romance films I have ever seen but it is also one of the best films series I have ever seen and Breaking Dawn Part 1, although at #6, deserves to be among the top elite.

                                                                                  #5
                                                    TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES
When you want to stick to classic, this hit from 1990 is the one. Hands down quite simply one of the best films I have ever seen and moreover my most favorite film growing up. Since its' release into theaters, I have seen Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles more times than any other film I have seen combined, including any one of the six Star Wars films. Growing, in fact growing old with the four turtles, I am proud to say that I saw them go through their entire evolution, starting with their original plain red bandanas in pencil-drawn comic books to their now multicolored bandanas and 3-demensional cartoons. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles made this list because...well... let's face it: IT'S THE TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES! Plus for a while I delivered newspapers to co-creator Kevin Eastman's house.

                                                                                 #4
THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING
It starts off with the forging of a great ring of power set to destroy all life by the hands of it maker and winds up in the hands of an innocent. One of the most epic adventures begins here as young Frodo Baggins embarks on one of the greatest journeys of our time. Following the wisdom of a wizard, Frodo, along with eight other companions, seeks out to destroy the One Ring while facing great perils. This film jumped directly into my Top 10 as it was not only one of my favorite books growing up but also one of my favorite radio shows from the BBC. Seeing this epic first film of the trilogy for the first time made me fall in love with it instantly. While still in theaters, I, along with my mother, went to go see The Fellowship of the Ring up to nearly twenty times and once back-to-back. That act alone was just one of the reasons why this Tolkien tale made my Top 10.

                                                                                 #3
                                                            THE LORD OF THE RINGS
Yes, I know what you may be thinking. How is it The Lord of the Rings is on your list twice? If you saw the original 1978 animated film by Ralph Bakshi you would already know that answer. This is it! One of the best, in fact personally, the best animated feature film of all-time. This is one of the few films I only have to listen to to know and visual precisely what is happening. Narrowing my mental images into exact detail this is my most common film for me to fall asleep to. Although, seeing it for the first time as a young boy can be quite frightening at times.

                                                                                #2
STAR WARS EPISODE IV: A NEW HOPE
A long time ago in a baby walker in a living room was my first glimpse at my ever growing expansion of movies. Watching the original Star Wars for the first time ever at barely two years of age, I am still to this day mesmerized and fascinated by the outstanding and award-winning visual effects used to make one of the greatest science-fiction films of all time. By the time I was five years old I was already able to recite the entire movie word-for-word on cue. This not only was an instantly loved film but a cherished classic although my birth was only about five months before the release of Return of the Jedi in 1983.

                                                                                #1
                                                                             ALIEN
I have no shame in admitting this. The original 1979 sci-fi horror classic is my ultimate favorite film of all time. I know I have told others that there are other movies far greater than this, however, after careful consideration (and examination) I have reached a self-agreement: Alien is the best film I have ever seen. This movie has everything: the eeriness, the scariness, the classicism, occasional humor, the reciting of lines, my ability to visualize precise action without having to watch, the excitement and an altogether good yet not so good ending as this film spawned off three sequels and two spinoffs. Seeing this film for the first time even as a young teenager nearly made me want to throw up or hide underneath my bed sheets. NO LYING! This original film by veteran director Ridley Scott was boosted up to the #1 slot after a better look at the film's actual display and talents of visual effects as well as the acting from the terrified crew members of the Nostromo... and by the way, there is an actual scene where both cast and crew thought that John Hurt's character was really choking which made the film that much more terrifying and also adding the bonus of authenticity.

I hope you enjoyed this blog. As you are aware there are a few up-to-date films on my list of Top 10. But who knows really. Maybe next year another film may arise and bump one of these ones of the list... very doubtful but yet still possible. Thank you for reading.

My story has finally begun!

I know it's been a couple of weeks since I first reported it but I can safely say that I have finally started the project of a major story through another account. No knowing yet when I will complete this project considering the length and time expansion between the events of the story. So far the only thing written is the "Prelude" but there is going to be a ton more upcoming.

For people interested, here is the link to the first installment: http://mymegastory1982.blogspot.com/

I apologize for it being a little short. It's just an introduction really. Enjoy!

But I hope you all read and wish me luck in actually completing it in a short time frame. Until next time...

Peace

I have once again been trying to figure out what to write about. Although nothing hasn't come to mind really, I've decided to just wing it.

The air was soft and warm as the blanket of night swept over the land. Crickets begun to chirp and the sound of birdsong faded away into the night. Clouds passed along the horizon, overlapping the stars. The air began to grow thick and the sound of thunder was heard off in the distance. The wind began to pick up, sending wave after wave of gusts against the tall grass of the meadows. Sparks of lightning threw out in spiderwebs along the rim of the sky and rain began to beat down upon the trees.
The sounds of the night died down as the battle within the skies ensued. The rain turned into a torrential downpour and the wind grew harder and faster making the raindrops seem like bullets striking their targets along the trees and the ground. Bolts of lightning struck here and there creating sonic booms across the plains of the meadow. The clouds above clashed in a furious rage, each with a devastating explosion of electricity. The thunder became ever so violent as it roared amongst the clouds.
A giant bolt of lightning suddenly came crashing down from a gap in the clouds, striking a tree and instantly setting is ablaze. The flames along the tree sang with fury as it ate away at its' meal. The tree began to wither and crumble as if fatigued. It sank to the ground, letting the flames begin to eat the floor of the meadow. The heavy rain from above did not provide extinguishing to the tall grass below as the flames spread out in a giant circular rim as if a rock dropped into a pond.
As the flames consumed below, the chaos above continued. The clouds hammered against each other, each with devastating explosions. The thundered bellowed across the plains and the lightning continued to send out huge sparks with its' wrath. The rain now seemed unbearable as it blanketed the whole of the meadow. The rage of the flames below grew and grew as if the entire meadow was a river of fire.
Within the chaos above a peculiar light could be seen through a gap in the clouds. Through the midst of the rage and wrath of the terrible storm, the shine of a single star was shown. In its' radiance up above, no cloud or edge of darkness could ever touch its' purity. Though the light of the star may have been small, knowing that no evil could touch that beam of light made it shine brighter than any other star out there. The chaos below continued into an unending wrath. But the star above remained and shown its' light down upon the plains and stayed untouched and unharmed.

I hope this blog inspires readers and let them know that even through chaos and what seems like unending torment, there will always be a part of you that nothing or no one else can touch. Peace be with you all.

My Sanctuary

Okay, it has been a little while since my last blog but I wanted to try something different. Instead of writing a memoir or comical story, I've decided to go ahead and write lyrics to a song. Granted it doesn't really provide any justice with the inability to hear the music to go along with it, but I hope you enjoy it nonetheless.

(VERSE 1)
I know I can never be enough,
But You'll always be here,
I know that my words
Are simple and shallow
But You mean everything You say and do

(VERSE 2)
I know I don't have anything to give,
To repay what You have given me,
But I know in my heart,
That You will always be here forever

And I thank you,
From the bottom of my heart,
Because

(CHORUS)
You are my Light
You are my Home
You are my Sanctuary
You are my Peace
You give me Hope
You are my Sanctuary

(VERSE 3)
You are the only one
You teach me things that I need to know
And You made me realize,
That life is not just a simple song

And I thank you
From the bottom of my heart
Because, because

(CHORUS)
You are my Light
You are my Home
You are my Sanctuary
You are my Peace
You give me Hope
You are my Sanctuary

(BRIDGE/CHORUS)
You are my Guide,
When I am lost
You are my Sanctuary
You are the heart,
That keeps me alive
You are my Sanctuary

You are the will
That makes me strong
You are my Sanctuary
You are the warmth
When I feel cold
You are my Sanctuary
My Sanctuary

My Sanctuary...

My Sanctuary...

The Nockinwan Tribe

There have been many called native tribes from all over the globe. Many of these have a very distinctive history and fascinating cultures and traditions. But today, people, we explore the vast primitive history of one of the greatest tribes ever known. Ladies and gentlemen, I give to you the Nockinwan Tribe.

Long years ago when the world was still new and humanoids began adapting to their environments, routines were established in the far off land of Hoobi'choobi. Families nestled there and began to grow. These were the primitive Nockinwan Tribe. Their figures were stout and hunched, almost gorilla-like yet clumsy. They did not possess the knowledge to build fully erected huts or buildings. Instead they used tapir droppings and with it formed a mound with a hole beneath it, which only suited one person at a time. Needless to say, many tapirs died of dysentery in order for this to happen.

The Nockinwan (or Nyucks as they called themselves) were a tribe that were unable to adapt to their environment. In fact they did not even attempt to. Having only been around for a several years, the Nockinwan were very apathetic. Their meals consisted of dirt, pebbles and occasionally part of their home. They did not understand the concept of creating fire; not even during the great storm of May 9th, 45,862 b.c. when poor Ligobop was struck by a bolt of lightning. Instead of calling the fire brigade, the entire tribe laughed as sparks shot from Ligobop's nipples. Even as he was being electrocuted Ligobop managed to produce a smile right before he dropped dead.

About a year later, the tallest of the Nockinwan, standing at 3 foot 8 inches at the shoulders, named Flooloo, looked over and saw a fellow tribesman eye-balling his manure-home. He walked out into the middle of the clearing where he challenged his neighbor Wogwog to a pebble eating contest. With both men being brought piles of pebbles, they began to scarf down the little nuggets for what seemed like hours. In the end, however, Flooloo collapsed and Wogwog was claimed the victor. Unfortunately for Wogwog, his victory was short-lived as he belched and a spray of pebbles sprung from his mouth and striking many of the tribes-people. As horrifying as it may have been, every tribes-person, including Flooloo, laughed as the pebbles ricocheted off and embedded into their neighbors. Flooloo would later sink into the soft earth due the tremendous weight of the pebbles he consumed. R.I.P. Flooloo.

After that event, there isn't much to tell about the Nockinwans (or Nyucks). Although one tribesman was able to invent the slingshot using two trees. Sadly he was never heard from after that.

There are many speculations as to how the Nockinwans became extinct. Some say it was the coming of the Ice Age while others disagree and say it too hot them and they all melted. But I can let everyone in on a little secret and say I know exactly what killed the Nyucks. TV! They watched too much television and it rotted their brains, then they all drank from a dirty dog dish and became possessed thinking they were Superman and started jumping off of buildings. After a while it settled until the great hemorrhoid outbreak of '65. And the make matters worse they all thought they were Barney and began singing corny children songs. And finally right before the entire tribe was wiped clean off the map, they all coughed, sneezed and belched at the same time and all exploded!!!

It's a sad tale, really, to know that this tribe could have gone places. Places like France or Belgium. Who knows. But one thing is for sure, this was a group of people who should have made it into the history books... if only they had held on for eight more little minutes.

The story, names and locations written in this story are fictitious. Any similarities based on the story are coincidental (I would most certainly hope so). The story itself was intended merely for humor purposes (and I hope it has lived up to that).

SIMPLY THE BEST

START: 10:46am.

I have been up for an extremely long time now. I do not recall the last time I slept but because I haven't slept we, including myself, all must face the consequences. For those who do not understand what I am talking about, please concentrate on how much I persistently babble on about mediocre situations such as this. When I stay up for long endless periods of time (87.4 hours being my record set on the days of December 8th to December 12th, 1999) my mind begins to wander and stray into vast unfamiliar territory. To some it could be classified as a psychotic episode. Well, ladies and gentlemen, allow me to introduce to you my very own psychosis.

I was contemplating of what I should write about. As you can plainly see from my previous blogs, my sole subject varies between category. I figured , based from my last blog, I should copy it in another unique way. Instead of referring to someone this time, I will tell the true stories of the Best and Worst moments of my life. Many after reading this would... well many who just read this probably haven't gotten this far... but many after reading this would express thoughts such as, "Oh, Josh is exaggerating. He never went through this. All he is is just one giant fish story." Believe me when I tell you, friends, that everything I write, everything I have ever written is all based off facts and emotions. More often then not, even as I am writing I can be very emotional and often cry. So as you read these, please remember that what I write takes courage from me.

MY TOP... BEST MEMORIES
#10: No shred of doubt about it. Hands down, the very best of the best memory I have ever gone through was witnessing the birth of my son, Austin Tyler. His mother, Nicole, was given induced labor on December 28th, 2004. I remember seeing her belly swollen up to the size of a Buick and slanted to one side because Austin had not fully turned. It was a really long night matched with an even longer day. Nikki was in labor for over 16 hours and by the end of the first hour, both her and I would exhausted. But I stuck with her every step of the way. Okay, I'll admit I got maybe three extra minutes of sleep longer than her, but only because I was woken up by her using the restroom in the delivery room in the middle of the night. From then on, it was all anticipation being raised. By early morning (December 29th [my mother and Nikki's best friend Maggie is also in the room]) Nikki's labor pains begun to rise at a various rate. She was put on oxygen and cranked up to the eyeballs with I.V.'s. She was becoming clammy and extremely fatigued. But, and I will even say it to this day, Nikki is a fighter and survivor like me. Nikki held on so much with what was going on, with the doctors and nurses and midwife coming to check on her whenever there was a problem with anything. So needless to say, they were checking on us every two seconds. By around 10am, Nikki was finally given the choice of taking something for the pain... a.k.a. the epidural. As much as she pleaded, Nikki finally agreed to it. Mind you, because of the sanitation issue, this was the ONLY time I left her side and it was only for 15 minutes. When I came back into the room with my mother and Maggie, Nikki was all set up with her epidural. We're saying, "Okay, this is it. This is the home stretch." Wrong! We still have to endure several more hours. After we came back, just about everyone was beyond exhausted at this point. Nobody slept and even some nurses keep going past their shift just to make sure everything was fine.
Listening to the heart monitor, we can hear Austin thumping like a locomotive inside mommy's tummy. But by mid afternoon there's a problem. Which each contraction that Nikki has, Austin's heart rate plummets. Now doctors and nurses are paying particularly close watch on what is going on. All throughout the time that I left for those short 15 minutes, the first and only thing I did was hold Nikki's hand. I never once let go. We have reached the point of nearly 3:30 in the afternoon. Nikki is in excruciating pain, she is fatigued like we all are, she is shallow-breathing with each contraction. Looking back on that moment alone, this was the time I really became frightened. It was also around this time that the entire maternity ward shut down and prepared for a possible emergency C-section because Austin still had not fully turned.
This next part is as serious as serious can get and I am not trying to embarrass or hurt anyone in any way by this. After they had made Nikki's pregnancy a priority, the midwife came in and examine the situation thoroughly. What the midwife did next was both fascinating and disgusting. With one hand placed on her belly and just two fingers from her other hand placed inside her birth canal, the midwife began massaging Nikki, turning Austin inside at the same time. The sight that my eagle eyes witnessed were clamped open as I saw the roll of Nikki's belly shift, even only for a small length in rotation. I looked back at my son's mother and saw the agonizing look of pain in her eyes. With a little help, Austin had finally turned to the point of when it was safe to start pushing.
During the long minutes of pushing, it was a constant team effort. With me forcing back one of Nikki's legs and her mother, Tammy (who arrived earlier), forcing back the other. We were cheering her on. Doctors, nurses, the midwife, Maggie, Katie (Nikki's other friend), we were all getting into it like some football rally. Nikki squeezed and squeezed (and at one serious point lost her breath even while at full oxygen). The entire floor could hear us as we cheered and encouraged Nikki. She kept pushing and pushing, even after she lost her breath, Nikki never stopped. Finally, Austin began to crown. The hard part of nearly over. Just one more big push and...
After an exhausting 41 minutes, Austin flopped onto the delivery bed like a sack of potatoes. When I finally saw my son for the first time in the flesh and after all that excitement, my emotions shut down completely. I collapsed onto Nikki's chest with tears just pouring out of me. I kissed her again and again and again. I didn't know what I felt. To this day, I don't know what I must have felt. I was so overwhelmed with emotions it was unbearable. I am 28 and a half years old as of this blog. I have lived for almost three decades now. But I have to admit, as I begin to cry re-realizing it, those 16 hours and 41 minutes of my life will be the most exciting moment of my entire life.

I was going to continue this with a few more, but given the fact that many don't like to read much online, I'll bring this out in segments. If you have a memory of me, please share it and I will add that into the mix for the next one. Thank you for reading.

STOP: 12:06pm

Monday, June 13, 2011

I have been contemplating for a long time of how I could write this new addition to my blog without greatly offending anyone. For privacy reasons I will not reveal the identity of anyone I will be talking about, but for some it may be pretty obvious as to whom I am referring to. For others, I will send you a message in your inbox and indicate where your story is located by paragraph.

1st Story: For many, many years you and I became naturally enemies. Starting in elementary school and going all the way to 8th grade, it was almost non-stop school yard chaos between us. We were arch-rivals and everybody knew about it yet no one did anything to stop it, including teachers and staff. To this day I am deeply surprised our confrontations never resulted into anything physical. During the time I spent after school and away from you, I hated you for raising my anger to an unusual peak. My hatred toward you was so unbearable at times, but I never once brought that hatred back to the school yards, because I always thought that perhaps one day things would change between us. The days you drove me beyond my breaking point I wished something good would come out even more. For many years, nothing and I was left with a five-day torment every week. But something good did come out of it and a big change occurred. We became very good friends in high school. We did not fight once. We respected each other and laughed together. Throughout everything you and I have been through, I only have one thing to say to you: I am blessed to have you part of my life and honored to be your friend.

2nd Story: October 31, 1998. A notorious and well-known story that keeps reminding me of one of the most special moments in my life. You were the first one I ever asked to marry. I unfortunately screwed that up by doubting our relationship and being overloaded with self-induced suspicions as well as false information by third parties. My mental instability took a violent turn into a world of schizophrenia and delusions. I was unable to control the way I thought or felt due to all the stress I allowed to consume me. As a result I created a fictional character I called "John Stallion" and proceeded to unleash a nightmare into reality. I was never who I was when I was around you. The person you saw was the fantasy for me and John Stallion was my new reality. In medical terms, I was psychologically screwed. But many years later, we found each other again. And I will say now what I said then as I dropped to my knees to you: I am so sorry for what I had done to you.

3rd Story: This would have to be one of my favorite stories in the terms of comedy and coincidental outcome. We met for the first time on September 5th, 1988. It was the very first day of Kindergarten when I first saw you. I can still in a way remember you even back then. You were shy and very "girly." Yet you do did have a smile that glowed. I remember the days of playing outside at recess and playing our favorite game known only as one word: Vampire. Looking at it now, I think both you and I can say that game was silly and in certain ways dangerous. And also, thank you so much for biting a piece of flesh off of my arm. I still have the scar. But that actually isn't the story that reminds me most about you. It was during one day in 2nd grade. We had just finished eating lunch in the cafeteria and got back to Mrs. Mahar's class. The desks are set up 2x2, four desks for each set in groups around the classroom. You're sitting directly across from me. So close I could actually touch your feet with mine. We're in the middle of doing class work. I bend over to pull something out of my desk and before I knew it, I hear a sudden "blep" followed by a loud splattering sound. So to you, thank you so much for throwing up the Salisbury steak we had for lunch all over my desk.

4th Story: YOU! Oh, where to begin with you? We have known each other for nearly half our lives. We did not really start off as friends as I recall the famous "push" you gave me, sending me flying halfway down the school corridor. That hurt by the way. But more often then not, you and I remained loyal friends for life, with the exception of a few incidents that I will not reveal as they are appalling to all the parties involved. But let's face it, buddy, you and I have been through a ton of memories together that cannot all be told in just this one chapter of our lives. You were there for me and I was there for you. You are my brother and my pal for life. Love you, dude.

5th Story: There is something special about you that will forever remain a part of me. There is no doubt that the love I hold for you will ever diminish. You may not have been my first love, but you are my first TRUE love. Yet I took you for granted and was unable to control my explosive anger that I unleashed not only upon you, but everyone. I didn't hate you, although I may have said it. I hated myself and could not control my emotions at all. I hurt you, your family, your friends, but most of all, I hurt our son with my anger. I was unable to help myself with how I was feeling, therefore could not help anyone or anything else. Yet I always felt like I could contain and control the situations. I had power over nothing and I refused to ever look at it that way. Looking back on what I had done, the only person I ever hated was me. For another time, even as I am writing this short story involving you, please forgive me for every piece of wrong I ever did to you, your family and our baby boy.

6th Story: Though it may seem unethical to put your story right after the previous one, I really hope you do not take offense to it. Actually, I just hope you don't take offense to me adding you, period. Anywho... technically you can say that you and I met in a virtual role-playing world. The only nickname I had for you at that time was "Buffalo." That later changed of course. I can remember the online talks we had. Then we said, "Hey, wanna meet sometime?" Given the distance of travel I had to go just to meet you was at first frightening enough. Over 900 miles of travel in 26 hours. Still I thought it would be rather fun. Get out on my own, meet a beautiful woman and see the sights. $282 later...*cough*... it finally happened. July 4th, 2006 I finally got to see you in person for the first time. I remember it completely. You were about as timid as Piglet himself, twiddling your thumbs, walking cautiously toward my hotel room, not mention keeping your distance too. By the way, sorry for scaring you when I "psst-ed" you. I remember when I first hugged you. Our eyes met, it was just a never-ending moment for me. Yeah, you're probably thinking, "Oh, brother" by now, but hey that's what happened and how I felt. We went out to the Lake and... well semi-watched the fireworks. We were more preoccupied with walking around the Lake and talking to each other. Later that night we sat in grass outside the house under the stars and talked endlessly. It was in that moment where I truly felt something for you. Our relationship started miles away and although it ended due to a "lie" and dreadful mistake I made, I will always treasure that day as the fondest memory I have of you... and I will never ever forget the "Rhino" and Sunburst either.

7th Story: Except for my own mother, I have known you longer than any other person in my life. I don't recall actually meeting you on September 5th, 1988 but I definitely recall seeing your daughter for the first time, and since she doesn't have an online profile I have to combine both yours and hers... but to an extent of course. The very time I met your daughter, I remember going to my mother that day after school and saying, "I'm going to school with an angel." Me, her and you have all gone through a million and one memories together. Memories that would take a life time to repeat one by one. Again, except for my mother, never has a love I had for someone been so pure and unending. You became my second loving mother and "Marie" became my beautiful sister. I love both of you with all of my heart and I will never stop loving you. That is a promise I keep forever.

8th Story: This is the saddest moment of my life and it surrounds many of my past and current friends. I grew up with you, so I guess you can say you knew me your whole life. We hardly ever hung out at all but yet I knew who you were. Your hair was like a golden river. Your eyes were like a cloudless sky. Your beauty was magnificent. You were an angel. Monday, June 27th, 1999 I found you headlined in the newspaper. I didn't know what to think. I could not believe what I just read. I forced myself not to believe it. But on that following Wednesday, I found out for sure that it was true. You were gone. Taken from here to return Home. Though I did not really know you well, learning of your being gone threw me into a panic. For two weeks straight I cried for you. Rivers of tears poured out of me because I felt like this world had lost something so beautiful it was irreplaceable. No one as beautiful as you could ever exist again, and we know its true. Not one single human being on this planet looks exactly 100% alike, even for "identical" twins. I have mourned you for more than 10 years. But I have finally moved on. I will always miss you, Amy, and I hope you can forgive me for any wrong I ever caused you.

9th and Final Story: This is the only story of which I know exactly the date AND time of when it all began. December 22nd, 1982 at 9:40am: the day I finally saw the face of whose sciatic I had been sitting on for nine whole months. What can I say; my mother and I have gone through ALL of my memories together, except for those which have remained private. I will have to say that she is the best parent any child could ever hope for. I was never born with a "silver spoon" in my mouth, and my mother never showered me with gifts either. She taught me morals, life lessons and self-discipline. That to me is better than any action figure, video game or movie she ever bought for me. She never gave up on me and now that I am nearing 30 years old, I know full well she never will give up. Love you, mom.

I really hope all of you enjoyed and appreciated reading the part of me that matters most: friends, family and the memories we shared. If we forget about the ones we have encountered, we lose a part of ourselves as they lose a part of themselves as well. Love or hate, just never forget that we all shared something together.

The English Language Is The Hardest Language To Understand

Believe what you may, but it is universally true that the English language, AMERICAN English mind you, is in fact the hardest language you will ever understand. I am not saying it is hard to learn. Any fool can learn English but it takes longer to understand the meaning of certain words and phrases. I have gather materials from previous selections but I will just give you a taste of how English is confusing and hard.

"Can you grab a can of good food for the ewe."
Remember in grammar class where you had to underline the verbs/nouns? Well here's a perfect test.

The verbs: can and grab
The nouns: can, you, food and ewe

Well, wait a minute. Can and can are a verb and a noun?
Can (v): to be able, the ability to, power to, skill to, have the means to
Can (n): a sealed container

Confused yet? It gets better. You and ewe. Okay, this one is easy. You means yourself or any other person (depending on how it is directed). Ewe is a female mature sheep. Same sound yet different spelling.
But how about words that look the same way spelled out yet sound differently. Good and food. Everyone knows what they mean but why should they sound differently? Gooood fooood, or good fud. Why is it good food?
And it gets worse. W-o-r-s-e worse. H-o-r-s-e "herse"?
L-a-u-g-h-t-e-r laughter. D-a-u-g-h-t-e-r "daffter"?
Then of course there is the common "there, their, they're" theory.
There. Where? THERE! Their is possessive and "they're" is they ARE.
The English language is so confusing in its own fundamental way that it is a miracle we pass English courses in school. I found out later in life that I didn't have to draw out the whole of "CANNOT" on reports. I could write the word "can't." I would ask my teacher if I could do it that all the time and she responded, "No, you CAN'T."
Recently, the Oxford English dictionary placed two more words... "WORDS" mind you... into the infinite amount of words already admitted into their collection. The two words were "l-o-l" and "o-m-g." When I saw that on the news I said, "Oh, my god!" and began to laugh out loud. "Lol" and "omg" are not words. They are abbreviations... whoops. Sorry I not using proper writing skills. Allow me to re-phrase. "Lol" and "omg" AIN'T words. They're abbrev!

I'm the one writing this and I'm probably just as confused as you may be. At least the ones who understand the humor of these facts. English is dreadfully confusing on so many different levels I could never possibly fathom. Quick to learn but terribly hard if not impossible to understand, and this was just a few short examples. I hope you enjoyed this and I am hoping to come out with more blogs in the future. Topic suggestions are appreciated and I'll see what I can do with it. Thank you for reading.

Wive's Tales

The following is not necessarily a blog. This is mostly for entertainment purposes so I hope you enjoy.

There have been many things that our parents have told us over the years, many concerns that they, mostly the mother, have presented to us. These particular stories have been known as "Old Wives' Tales." Throughout many decades, mothers have grown their concerns over their child's well-being. Many of such have gone so far as to constantly keep their child in diapers until their own death, having never letting go of their "precious little angel." It's frightening, but upon discovering what wives' tales are out there, the following can be considered just as scary as a thirty-year-old man in a diaper.

Eating Carrots Improves Your Night Vision
Technically speaking, this one is considered among many to be only a half-truth. Yes, carrots do contain Beta-carotine, which is converted into Vitamin A for the liver. And it is also true that Vitamin A does help maintain good vision but the Beta-carotine within carrots does not contain enough to hold a significant difference for night and day sights. The tale of this wives' tale roughly started during the Second World War as British armies spread the rumors of plane spotters eating carrots and easily detecting and sighting their aircraft during night raids, but this also concealed the truth of the new invention of the radar. Also during World War II, an air pilot named John "Cat's Eyes" Cunningham managed to engage and destroy more than 20 ground targets, perfectly alluding any radar detection, and this was such because Cunningham claimed to have exceptional night vision due to his carrot eating.

Having Sex Standing Up Is A Contraceptive
Completely false in all aspects as this is a perfect example of peer sex education. Sperm is totally capable of swimming up the vagina, through the uterus to the fallopian tubes where they may fertilize the egg, regardless of what position the woman is during any sexual intercourse.

                                                             Chocolate Causes Acne
One we have all heard. One of the oldest of the wives' tales, however this is only a half-truth. Chocolate does not cause acne for otherwise healthy individuals, however, it can have an effect if one is sensitive to any specific ingredients, such as pasteurized milk or hydrogenated oil. This old wives' tale is associated with discouraging a person from consuming something that is potentially hazardous or that they are afraid of it.

                                                       Masturbation Causes Blindness
I am sure that all of society around the globe have heard this false wives' tale. As this wives' tale began to spread, it was doing it so only to discourage the act of masturbation itself and associating it with blindness. This was done mostly among young male teenagers reaching the age of puberty and maturity. For males, this old wives' tale resulted in hairy palms or mental illnesses, and for females, masturbation among them resulted in infertility, both of which were equally false in the long run. Masturbation for males may reduce some of the stored sperm for the immediate future, however did not have long-term effects nor was considered good birth control. The sperm itself would automatically be replaced almost immediately. The only correlation of this wives' tale is that sperm contains significant amounts of zinc, which if a deficiency occurs, however unlikely from masturbation, could cause some potential vision problems.

Staying Out In The Cold Without A Coat Causes Pneumonia
I have been told this once or twice by a few people, only to discover that this old wives' tale is absolutely false. Pneumonia is a bacterial infection caused by such bacteria as Streptococcus pneumoniae. Some variations of this tale include that if someone stays outdoors for a significant period of time, they would potential get either a cold or flu, both of which are caused by viruses. This tale was not spread until recently, possibly dating back to only the early 1980s. As the public steadily became aware of the illness, the rumor evolved into many different pseudoscientific explanations. One of the more popular explanation was that a low core body temperature negatively impacts the effectiveness of the human immune system. This makes sense as it is known as a fever, an elevation of core body temperature. However, scientific studies have shown that there is no correlation between lowered body temperature and the decrease of the immune system's response. Yet another version of this same wives' tale has been known as if one sit by an open window or air-conditioner that it would cause a cold or pneumonia. The standing water of air-conditioner may allow some bacteria such as Legionnaire's disease to multiply, however this also depends on how close a person is sitting to the air-conditioner, but otherwise, like before, this is also false.

Stepping On A Rusty Nail Causes Tetanus
This can actually be true, but this old wives' tale is considered to be only a half-truth. Tetanus is nothing more than a anaerobic bacterium and can be transmitted through puncture wounds such as by stepping on a rusty nail. The rust of the nail itself does not cause the tetanus to take effect, however, the dirt of the nail may contain the tetanus pathogen, even for a clean nail that had been previously in contact with soil could contain tetanus bacteria to cause infection. Also, a wound that closes on the surface before fully healing underneath may store the tetanus infection causing the bacteria to take its' toll on the immune system, as the tetanus bacterium would be effecting both the surface wound and underneath. Before the vaccination for tetanus came about, it was advised to keep the wound open as it would eventually heal from the bottom up, keeping the infection of tetanus at bay.

Watching Too Much TV Up Close Will Give You Square Eyes
I have not heard this version of this tale. A variation would be that television would cause brain damage. Either way, both turned out to be completely false as this rumor was only to keep children from watching too much or sitting too close to the screen as it would potentially cause eye strains. Also, watching too much television may cause fatigue among some but it would not change the common optical shape of the eyes.

Other wives' tales have been announced, such as the false tales of habitual knuckle cracking causes arthritis or drinking coffee reduces body growth. Many others have also been included. Here are some quick example of some other old wives' tales:

Taking showers or washing your hands while you are sick will rehatch a virus. This is totally false as doctors would prescribe nasal congestion or recommend cold showers to lower high body temperatures.
Swallowing chewing gum will stay in your body for seven years. Another false story as chewing gum is excreted like any other undigested piece of food.
Eating the crust of bread causes your hair to curl. False, plain and simple.
A pimple on your tongue proves that you have lied about something is also a false tale.
If you make a funny face and the wind changes direction, your face will stay that way. One that many people have heard more than once. This is a completely false tale as it was prevalent among the sufferers of Bell's Palsy.
If you go swimming less than an hour after eating, you will get cramps. Again, another one that many have heard that turned out to be false, but some scientists do advise not to swim or engage in another physical activity some time after eating as it effects the sympathetic nervous system by overriding orders. This was parodied in one of the books of Limony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events.
If you touch a toad, you will get warts is false as warts are caused by a virus, which is not transferable between species.
If you consume Pop Rocks followed by a carbonated drink, such as soda, your stomach will explode and you will die. Again, a false tale but a very popular one among the categories of urban legends.

Many other wives' tales have been said and spread all around the globe and will for many years to come. Just another example of how protective and how a mother's concerns can rise over their precious little angels. The question is what will they come up with next.

Humility

I did not know how to do a blog with the word "humility" as its' center topic. I hope you enjoy what is about to come straight out of my head with God backing me up.

What is humility?  What does it mean to be humble or meek? And how can we become humble? Webster's defines humility as a noun meaning the quality or condition of being humble; modest opinion or estimate of one's own importance, rank, etc.
It seems pretty vague. It says "of one's OWN importance." Could this be defined as a conceited act? Jane Austen wrote in her novel Pride and Prejudice that "nothing is more deceitful than the appearance of humility." Is humility really a bad thing? Is being humble a sin? So many questions left unanswered until now. The answer is of course Webster and Austen's definition of the word are way wrong.
Humility is a state of mind well pleasing to God (1 Peter 3:4). Humility preserves the soul in tranquility (Pslam 69:32, 33). And humility makes us patient under trials (Job 1:22). So why are we then taught that humility is a bad thing when God Himself says that it is a prominent Christian grace (Romans 12:3, 15:17, 18; 1 Corinthians 3:5-7; 2 Corinthians 3:5; Philippians 4:11-13).
The true definition of humility is to be our lifestyle since it was the lifestyle of our LORD and Savior, Jesus Christ. Jesus was a very humble man during his years ministering to others. A perfect example of Jesus being so humble can be found in John 13. Jesus knew that his Father had given him everything into his hands. Jesus knew he had come from God and was going back to Him. But during the last supper, Jesus cast off his garments and girded a towel around himself giving him the appearance of a servant. "After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded." (John 13:5). The disciples, having followed Jesus all along, were baffled at the sight of this, especially Peter. When Jesus prepared to wash Peter's feet, Peter told Jesus that he shall not have his Lord wash them. But Jesus answered Peter by saying, "If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me." (John 13:8).

One of the greatest joys of our lifestyle of knowing Jesus is to learn to follow HIS example of humility. Jesus tells us that it is better if we allow others to go ahead of us (Luke 14:7-11). But do not look at it as putting yourself down or lowering yourself as an non-benefited slave to others, but rather putting others first. God rewards those who are kind to others. In Luke 14:11, Jesus says, "For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."
In John 13, Jesus' example tells us all that we are to serve others in humility. I know that if we are humble and display great humility, the blessings and joys God will place in our lives will be countless.

Self-Pity

"I never saw a wild thing sorry for itself. A small bird will drop frozen dead from a bough without ever having felt sorry for itself." ~D.H. Lawrence on Self-Pity~

I look beyond the physical measure of what I see. People see me as this all God-loving person. But what they do not see is where they stop looking. I have done things in my life that I am not proud of. I have committed acts that I should be ashamed of but I am not. Should I be? Should I commit myself to feel sorry for myself for certain things I did in my life? Should I put even the slightest bit of effort of having those events control who I am today? The answer is an absolute no. I will not let the old me take control of the new me. I will not hold on to what had been effecting me for many many years before I sought the best path that will ever be offered to me. These nameless acts which have controlled me and at often times consumed my life have dissolved like snow thanks to the words of the one I trust the most. I am no longer ashamed for what I have done in my past. I will no longer show self-pity for what I had done.

"Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart, having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever, because "All flesh is as grass, And all the glory of man as the flower of the grass. The grass withers, And its flower falls away, But the word of the LORD endures forever." Now this is the word which by the gospel was preached to you." ~1 Peter 1:22-25~

Self-pity is just as strong as pride itself. Pride is one of the hardest things to ever overcome and every human being on this planet, living or dead with the exception of just one, has all suffered from pride. Webster's synonyms define "pride" as conceited, egotistical and pompous. It's a harsh thing to overcome and many people suffer from it, including myself. There is but only one cure for it: drop the barrier of embarrassment, throw down the "staff," release all your past events and admit that you are wrong. It says in Exodus 4 that the LORD appeared before Moses and Moses said unto Him, "What if they do not believe me or listen to me and say, 'The LORD did not appear to you?'" The LORD answered back to Moses, "What is that which you hold in your hand?" Moses replied, "A staff." The LORD then said to Moses, "Throw it down."

Moses, like many of us, had burdens to bear yet until the LORD God told him to throw down his staff, Moses did not know what to do. We can go many many years with burdens on our back but until we throw them all down before the LORD, they can cause us some damage in this life. I say give it all to God. Throw everything we have, good or bad, down before Him. Let Him take it from you. Trust in Him and will give you blessings like you can never imagine. "For whosoever calls upon the name of the LORD shall be saved."

That doesn't mean saying, "Hey, God? Yeah I'm a sinner and I did a lot of bad things. Please forgive me and it will never happen again. So can I get into Heaven now?" It's good that you have admitted being a sinner. However, something as simple as just those four statements will not get you in. Being baptized is a wonderful thing. Committing yourself to doing good for others, sending donations to St. Jude's Hospital or UNICEF or working community service for the elderly or receiving an honorary award for opening up an orphanage or even just living a happy life with your family. All those things, all those accomplishments will not get you into Heaven. But how we have Christ not only in our lives but in our hearts, how we deal with situations, how we live and walk with Christ and worship Him daily and read of Him daily and praise Him daily and receive Him into our hearts daily. I love Him because He loved me first, and if loving Him and praising Him and worshiping Him and living a righteous life with Him by my side; if that lets me get into Heaven, then I would be more than happy to oblige with the grace God has given me to do so.

LORD Father, I thank you for this day and giving me this time to write this blog. I hope that when people read this that they, like Moses, will be able to throw their burdens and struggles that they may be going through down at Your feet, Father. Let those who do know that they can trust you to take it all into Your hands, LORD. Give those who struggle with it the strength to come to You. Let them become more Christ-like and rejoice in You, LORD and trust in You and Your ways, God. For those who are fearful of coming to You, I ask that You, LORD, cast their fears aside and throw off their blinders. Let them be shown a way that will lead to You and not have their paths diverted from You. Give them the strength and guidance and wisdom they need to see You. Because You are always there for us, God. You are always loving us, God. And You will never give up on us, God. You are constant and everlasting, LORD and we love You. We love You for everything You have given us and continue to give us each and every single day, LORD. We love You, LORD, because You have loved all of us first. Again, LORD Father, I thank You for today and for all the things that You continue to for us and I say all of this in Your blessed Holy Name, LORD. Amen.
